While Mary was the wild child, Lecia was the smart but tough older sister. Lecia would always do her best to protect her baby sister. It was difficult for these girls to grow up in their dysfunctional family. Lecia had to play Mary's mother because their own mother was to busy drinking and getting remarried. Even after all the hardships they had to go through, Lecia made a good life for herself.

"Lecia went on to make an adult fortune selling whole-life insurance in Houston" (Karr 26).

Lecia was in Phi Beta Kappa in physics. She also got married to a man named David, who had four children from a previous marriage. He "owned working rice farms that nuded his income up towards the 50% tax bracket" (275). David was a good man. He bought J. P. a little white pick up truck. He also gave J. P. job. Furthermore, David was the one who was called when J. P. would get too drunk to drive.
